Fallen Man
The Film opens with a man tumbling through space, but we quickly learn that it's really a robot, made up of tinier robots ( An overwrought idea ) that are busily working to repair all the damage from micrometeors constantly hitting it. Deep inside are more complicated mechanisms that are able to fabricate replacement parts and do many other things. Deeper inside is The brain unit and a core of memory that is busily working to generate a synthetic world in which the outer character is living inside a fantasy world. The Fantasy world is very mundane, and while the character is sitting in a park one afternoon, a talking dog with six legs hops up on the bench and reveals, that despite false alarms in the past, this time it's the real deal. The only problem is; The character does not know what the dog is talking about, the last false alarm was more than 200 reincarnations ago. This real deal is that the outer body that is tumbling through space is being pulled into a gravity well of a large planet. The predicted damage to the unit may be irreparable. The angle at which it will hit the atmosphere is well outside the optimum range, and while it probably won't burn up entirely; The impact will almost certainly destroy all internal units. The man on the bench takes this all in, and continues to feed the odd looking animals gathered around him.
A woman is sitting at a bus stop when an object, accompanied by a sonic boom, smashes into the road right in front of her. She becomes hysterical and soon, emergency personal arrive to retrieve the asteroid. What they find, is something that looks kind of like a man, and the remains are retrieved. During an examination, they discover that it's a robot, made up of tinier robots that are trying to repair it. Rather than disturb their work, they just leave it alone, carefully observing it, and moving it to a more secure location, with an atomic bomb underneath the sealed laboratory. After several months, the robot comes alive and communication is established.
The Sentience within it is very disoriented, but is soon able to access protected memory units that reveal it's distant history. It has been tumbling in space for millions of years, as determined by comparing astronomical maps to ones that it has recorded within it. During this period, It was forced to erase most of it's memory to create a viable synthetic reality for it to live within to protect it's sanity. More than just a robot, It was once a carbon based life form, although many of it's particulars did not match those of the life forms on the planet it now inhabited.
The scientists on the planet work with the Robot to recover and interpret the old memories of the robot that were set aside and protected for all these millions of years.
It seems that it was once on a spaceship that was attacked by another spaceship and destroyed. It was at this time that it began to tumble in space. They further are able to determine pretty much exactly when this took place and where. Although as they work on other projects, the simulation of reversing the robots history, keeps changing. More and More precise calculations tune in on exactly when & Where, according to all the different stars and planets it was pulled along by.
One of the oldest memories that the robot has is of his true love; Amy.
The Robot manages to convince a group of the scientists to secretly build a spaceship for it to travel outward and backwards in time to prevent his spaceship from being destroyed and save Amy.
This all has to be done in secret, as everyone realizes that this kind of sudden technological leap would endanger the cultures, lives and sanity of everyone on the planet. A crew of 200 star ship astronauts are gathered and the spaceship leaves this planet and heads out to find the robots spaceship.
( It might be a good venue to introduce The idea of a Faux Moon Program or Terrorist Attack to Divert Money for This Hoax— To The Real Space Ship Project, which runs into The Billions of Dollars ) !
Should the scientist trust the robot?
Are the memories of the robot intact and reliable?
Irregardless; Most everyone thinks that this will be a grand adventure.
They hone in on the spaceship and the time of the attack and manage to find it weeks before it is attacked. Rather than intervene immediately, they study the spaceship and wait for the other spaceship to arrive. They have taken great precautions to make sure that they have the firepower to defeat the other ship.
During the examination of the robot's spaceship, they discover that it might not be manned by 'The Good Guys'. It's then discovered that the robot's spaceship is about to do something very bad, and that it must be stopped. In fact; They have already completely destroyed several entire planets that were inhabited by advanced civilizations.
It's also discovered that this Amy was a construct of the many simulations that the robot lived through, and was never a real being in any sense. When it crashed into the planet, those records were destroyed and distorted to create this confusion.
Meanwhile; Far Away; Another Civilization monitoring this activity, decides that it can't let them attack the robot's ship. This would create an alternative timeline that would endanger their own civilization.
It turns out that There are innumerable timelines that come & go, and tying them all together, there is a root timeline that is absolute. This other civilization is able to monitor many of these alternative timelines, and the root/absolute timeline as well. This RA timeline is rather curious. By monitoring it, they can see what will happen to effect them, and sometimes this sudden development might have taken place thousands or millions of years ago, along one of the alternative timelines. If they were to go back a few weeks in time, to give themselves more time to examine this anomaly, it would disappear!
So that when they find this impending attack about to take place, thousands of years ago, they have only a few days to get in their spaceships, go back in time and prevent it from happening. This timeline allows that all these other civilizations will be destroyed, but in so doing, it will allow their super civilization to grow and develop.
When the get back to the point of the attack, they find more than 60 other spaceships from different timelines that want it to proceed or not, or make some slight variations in what many of the other represented civilizations want.
The robot has no memories of any of this.
The robot is sure that his spaceship is very bad, and his millions of years of isolation have made him a super spiritual being of sorts, and he decides to slip away in his new spaceship and snap back a few thousand years, find his home planet and smash his world civilization back to the stone ages, allowing it to start over.
When they get back to the appointed time, and find that his home world is just discovering electricity... The robot and his crew try to surgically remove all the libraries and other monumental structures, and just when they get going, other spaceships start arriving.
After a horrific battle in space, they are able to crash into another spaceship and using their time dilator and their own star ship engines, they are able to flee into the deep future, where everything is very strange.
